Etta James in hospital

American blues singer Etta James has been rushed to hospital.
According to The Associated Press, James was taken to an undisclosed hospital in Southern California earlier this week after developing a dangerous infection.
It is believed that the singer is now undergoing treatment for blood poisoning, caused by an infection in her urinary tract.
The 'At Last' artist has suffered from severe ill health for the past few years, having developed Alzheimer's disease in 2009 and been diagnosed with leukaemia in 2010.
In January, a spokesperson for the singer said she was "fighting to stay alive" and suggested that fans should begin praying for her survival.
Before being taken to hospital, James was receiving round-the-clock care at her home in California.
