Jude Law has historic' plans for house

Jude Law is spending £500,000 to make his home look more historic.

The actor is proposing the changes to his Georgian mansion, valued at £8 million, in north London as he wants to “return it to its original splendor”.

The home is situated in the Highgate area of the UK capital and was built in 1832. It has Grade II listed status, which means it is of historical relevance and Jude has to get permission from the local authorities if he wants to make any changes to its appearance or layout in any way.

Plans submitted to Camden Council include excavating the basement of the four-storey building and knocking down partition walls to turn its eight bedrooms into five.

Architects at Richard Keep, who are working for the Sherlock Holmes star, are adamant the proposed changes are justified as the current design of the property “does not reflect the original layout” of the building.

According to the Mail on Sunday newspaper, the plans submitted to the council include removing a staircase installed in 2001, replacing “modern” doors and renovating fireplaces.

The proposal states, “All fixtures and fittings and finishes are modern and in need of an upgrade.”

The plans also include certain modernizations to the interior of the property, however, with the 38-year-old star wanting to set up a state-of-the-art gym in the basement, install solar panels to the roof, create a steam room next to the master bedroom and build a meeting room.

Jude bought the property in November 2010 when he was in a relationship with Sienna Miller, although they subsequently split in February this year.
