Jewel will be forever grateful for modern technology.
The singer and songwriter says she has the internet to thank for her successful career:
“I sort of came out at the dawn of the Internet in the mid-’90s and I think it helped break my career,” she said. “I think I was one of the first artists to really benefit from the grassroots swell that can happen online. I don’t know if I would have broken out without it. It’s continued to be a really strong presence in the music industry to where it’s even taken over record sales but I think it’s produced a lot of exciting opportunities for artists as well.”
Jewel then talked about her upcoming children’s album.
“I was really inspired while I was pregnant and I wrote a whole album for my baby,” she said. “I wanted to write a kids album that didn’t annoy parents. I used The Beatles ‘Rocky Raccoon’ as sort of a starting place for my writing. It’s a clever, well-crafted pop song, but it’s a really cute story that makes it light, so that’s what I went after. It’s almost finished and it’s out in the fall.”
